. ok, so there we get to the part i'm not so enamored with. all of you know our esteemed jennifer, our senior project manager in the planning and development commission. she had abandoned us for the glory of retirement, and she had left us with an amazing legacy of worked in the 18 years she has been with the port. it is incredible what all the she has done for this city and the port in her time. she joined in december of 1992. looks like a few days before christmas. i still wonder who does that, but jennifer did, and she came in the real estate division where she spent approximately six years, and then, she moved over to the planning and development commission where she spent the remaining 12 years. i'm 18 years she has been here, she has been promoted six times, so that is a great batting average. jennifer, congratulations. jennifer, as you know, is responsible on the port side for the project at 1.5, 3, and 5, which is spectacular. simon, wherever you are, we're taking all the credit for that project, so congratulations, wherever you are. also for the exploratory project that is com

breaking news out of northwest baltimore. there was a two alarm blaze this morning. >> jennifer franciotti is live at the scene in northwest with more. good morning. >> that fire is under control. firefighters are putting out some hot spots. it looks like a portion of liberty heights was shut down. in looks like traffic has reopened. fire fighters were using a fire hydrant along liberty heights. the fire started about 3:30 this morning on hillsdale. it happened to a vacant house. the intensity of the fire was so big that it's spread to two adjacent homes. one of the homes had been turned into a nursing home with four residents. they were safely evacuated. no injuries reported there. the other house, there was one occupant inside. he got out safely. no one was inside the vacant house. it did go to two alarms because of the intensity of the fire. firefighters were able to make a good knock on the fire and get everything under control. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. fire equipment remains on the scene. reporting live, jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> it thank you.

shooting. >> jennifer franciotti is live with more on the story. >> there was a police tape yesterday. it will try to be business as usual today. paul pardus is the suspect. he was upset after receiving medical information about his mother. he pulled out a gun and shot the doctor. that doctor has been identified as dr. david cohen, a spinal surgeon at the hospital. we will have more on his condition in a moment. security called city police who responded with a variety of other agencies, including swat teams. for more than two hours, pardus was barricaded in a room with his mother in the nelson building. at one point, parts of the hospital were evaluated. police learned something had happened inside the room. they went in to find pardus and his mother were dead from single gunshot wounds to the head. >> at this point we're treating this case as a murder-suicides. >> as for dr. cohen, spent much of the day in surgery for a gunshot wound. we do not have an update on his condition. the big question right now, how could a government get inside the hospital? we will have more answers for th

's check your forecast. for that we turn to meteorologist jennifer hill who's in for rob this morning. good morning, jennifer. >> good morning. it's a little cool outside. we had that breeze really picking up yesterday but a big warmup is on the way. a bit of low clouds around this morning, maybe a little fog but we'll see that burning off. temperatures in the 50s as we look at 8:00 a.m. as we head toward noon we'll all be enjoying quite a bit of sunshine and warm us up to 70 in concord, 71 in livermore, 67 in san jose, 62 at noon. so is the first day of fall that comes this evening at 8:00, it's going to feel more like summer as we head toward the end of the week. 69 degrees at 4:00 in fremont, 73 in livermore and we're looking at 68 degrees. so with the seven-day forecast here, a little cool today. we're forecasting temperatures right in the mid-70s as we look at the east bay. by the time we hit the weekend, forecast highs making it back into the 90s for the first weekend of fall. it kind of seems counter intuitive, doesn't it, scott. >> it does. great way to start fall. >>> mike joining

jennifer johnson. you can continue the conversation off line. >> my name is jennifer johnson, i am a deputy public defender. i represent 100 seriously mentally ill clients in our behavior and held court. i have been part of the program since the planning stages. i have seen the evolution of the program. most of mcclintock felony charges and a freezing state prison. about 75 -- most of my clients have felony charges and are facing state prison. all of my clients are in behavioral health court and in the criminal justice system because of an treated mental illness. if they had been treated, have access to proper treatment in the community, they would not be in the jail. is that simple. -- it is that simple. this is not a problem that is going to get better. it is a problem that is likely to get worse. the state prison system is overcrowded. it is releasing people back to the streets. there has been a change in the law. people in state prisoner serving less time. there are a huge number of people in state prison who have a major mental illness. they will be on our streets. this problem is seri

to touch on base with what was said, especially some of the things that jennifer johnson said, who is my attorney. some of the things that were sitting here tonight are some of the things that i have received. the money threatening to be cut because of the money or whatever. nearby had not had access, -- if i had not had access, i would not be standing here today. i was diagnosed as a schizophrenic, and with long- term treatment, i was able to make some drastic changes in my life. i am able to obtain and hold a job at this point. there have been times where i did not have a clue where to get treatment at because i did not know where it was available, and that is what is happening now. people do not know where to get it. if it had not been for the health corp., i would truly be shepherded into the system -- if it had not been for the health court. those places and things are needed, desperately, because if i had not been able to go to one to deal with both my addictions, the mental health and my drug addiction, that i do not know where i would be. i would probably be in prison somewhere.
